We live in a time when social media and digital platforms are constantly growing, gaining millions of new users, registered profiles, and advertising revenues every day. Today, anyone with internet access can call themselves an “expert” or a “professional” in media and public communications.
However, the reality is very different. Specifically here in North Macedonia, over the past days and weeks, we have continuously witnessed discussions about the behavior of children and young people, but also about the conduct and responsibility of parents, guardians, and the system as a whole.
Today, being a parent is a great responsibility and challenge. Can the new TikTok challenge among young people involving increased use of the drug paracetamol lead to harmful consequences for children? Absolutely yes. While the public discussion includes the issue of banning TikTok, there is also a parallel question about increasing education for young people, having direct conversations with them, and strengthening two-way communication.
This is because states can easily ban TikTok, but it is very likely that the youngest users will simply move to another similar social network. That is why it is important to talk with our children. It is essential to motivate them to be honest, to share with us both the good and the less pleasant things, to teach them that life is not black and white, and that knowledge and skills are the only things no one can take away from us.
JobLink by DEKRA is a web platform that connects job seekers with companies, but we are also aware that through our work we have a role in educating the new generations who should grow, work, and contribute to themselves and their environment.
