Nina Angelovska is a key figure in the Macedonian e-commerce landscape, known for her innovation and leadership in digital transformation. Following the prestigious e-commerce awards held in March, we spoke with Nina about her journey, current activities, and a few personal insights from the life of an entrepreneur.
1. Nina, you are a very influential figure in shaping e-commerce in Macedonia. How did your journey begin and what motivated you to enter this field?
My passion for e-commerce and e-business began at the Faculty of Economics at UKIM, when I chose the E-business department in 2006. From that moment, I’ve been deeply involved in the e-commerce market—first through theory, and immediately after graduation through practice with the launch of Grouper in 2011. During my studies, I participated in many competitions as a way to test myself and learn new things. In 2011, just before graduating, I won an award for the most innovative business plan, which gave me the push to start my own business.
2. The E-commerce Awards were recently held. How did this initiative start and how satisfied are you with this year’s edition?
We organized the awards for the first time four years ago, believing such an initiative was necessary to recognize and reward success in Macedonian e-commerce. This motivates companies to improve and encourages more businesses to join the sector. This year, interest grew significantly—200 companies were nominated and over 5,000 citizens voted.
3. What are the biggest challenges in e-commerce today and how can they be overcome?
E-commerce in Macedonia continues to grow, with 63.5% of internet users making online purchases.
The main challenges include delivery issues (speed, cost, reliability), unfair competition from the informal economy, payment limitations, and difficulties in finding qualified staff.
4. How do you see the future of e-commerce in Macedonia?
Growth is expected to continue in 2025, driven by digitalization, new e-shops, and evolving customer expectations. Companies will increasingly adopt new technologies, while institutions will play a greater role in supporting the ecosystem.
5. As a leader, entrepreneur, and mother, how do you maintain balance?
With good organization, I manage to balance professional and personal life. My child is my priority, but I believe everything depends on how well we organize our time.
6. Which technology or app can you not live without?
Definitely my phone—it’s essential for communication, work, organization, and everyday life.
7. Do you have any routines that help you stay focused?
Yes, I value routines. Exercise is part of my morning ritual—it gives me energy and helps me start the day.
8. How do you relax after a long day?
A glass of wine with my husband, sometimes with a conversation or a good movie.
