Vacation gives us distance from the work rhythm and space for personal balance. Still, even outside the office, we often realize that the team and our colleagues are part of everyday life that we genuinely miss. That feeling may come as a surprise, but it is not a reason to question yourself, nor is it a sign of weakness or an inability to disconnect from work. It is a natural and human reaction to the relationships we build every day.
We spend most of our days with the people we work with. With them, we share responsibilities, challenges, deadlines, and pressure, but also conversations, support, laughter, and short breaks that make the workday easier. Over time, those relationships become part of our routine and the way we function. When that routine is interrupted during vacation, it is completely natural for a sense of emptiness to appear because of the absence of daily contact with the team.
This feeling does not mean that work is taking over private life, but rather that we are part of a healthy work environment. When you miss your colleagues, it speaks of trust, respect, and a sense of belonging. It means that you are not just a task executor, but part of a team where relationships are genuine.
In such moments, it is completely fine to briefly check an app, send greetings, or write a short message. Not because of obligations, but because of the people. A simple “greetings from vacation” or a shared morning coffee moment is enough to maintain the connection and the sense of togetherness. That does not mean you do not respect your own rest, but that you know how to recognize the value of the relationships you have built.
A coffee break, although often seen as something informal and temporary, is one of the most important parts of the workday. That is where conversations without an agenda happen, support is exchanged, and empathy is built. In those short moments, a feeling of security and understanding is created. When, during vacation, you realize that you miss exactly those moments, it is a clear indicator of a healthy and stable corporate culture.
A healthy work environment is not defined only through rules, procedures, and formal policies. It is recognized through the relationships between people and the feeling that remains when we step away from the workplace. Rest is necessary, and distance is important, but connection with the team is a value that should not be suppressed. If, even during vacation, you feel that something is missing because of the absence of your colleagues, that indicates that you are part of a real team and a professional environment where you truly belong.
We spend most of the day with the people we work with. It is normal to miss them when we have not seen them for a certain period of time. Do you recognize yourself in some of these examples — and do you also think that all of this is a normal and healthy occurrence?
